A Note From CPS Leadership

Dear CPS Families, Colleagues, and Supporters,

I hope that everyone is enjoying a safe and productive summer break, and that you are taking advantage of all that our beautiful city has to offer during the summer months. Our District has been busy these past few weeks, distributing meals, hosting summer school programs, providing professional development for our educators, and preparing for a strong start to the new school year that begins on Monday, August 22.

One of the best ways to get ready for school is by attending one of our District’s upcoming Back-to-School Bashes. These community-centered events offer helpful back-to-school information, free school supplies, and plenty of fun activities for kids. They are also an opportunity to speak with health professionals about COVID-19 and get up-to-date on your vaccines and boosters. Beyond our Back-to-School Bashes, CPS has also resumed our regular schedule of vaccine events. Families can visit cps.edu/vaccinations for a list of upcoming vaccine opportunities this summer and more information about the recommended vaccines and boosters to protect your child and your loved ones from COVID-19.

Below is a list of this year’s remaining Back-to-School Bashes, all of which run from 2 - 5 p.m.:
  • Friday, July 22: Roosevelt High School, 3436 West Wilson Ave.
  • Monday, July 25: Crane Medical Prep High School, 2245 W Jackson Blvd.
  • Wednesday, July 27: DuSable High School Campus, 4934 S Wabash Ave.
  • Monday, August 1: Tarkington School of Excellence, 3330 W 71st St.
  • Friday, August 5: Field Elementary School, 7019 N Ashland Ave.
  • Tuesday, August 9: Fenger Academy High School, 11220 S Wallace St.
  • Wednesday, August 10: Chicago Vocational Career Academy, 2100 E 87th St.
  • Thursday, August 11: Michele Clark High School, 5101 W Harrison St.
  • Friday, August 12 (rescheduled): William F. Finkl Academy, 2332 S Western Ave.
We will provide families with more Back-to-School updates in the coming weeks. In the meantime, I hope that everyone enjoys these last few weeks of summer before returning to school, ready to learn on the first day of classes - Monday, August 22!

Sincerely,

Pedro Martinez
